Our Shades of Grey – Valspar Interior Paint Colors

When you buy a brand new house, you think it has been freshly painted and it won’t need painting for many years.  Well, our builder-grade paint, which is actually the Sherwin Williams brand, is extremely dry and chalky.  Not to mention that entire house is cream.  The only other choice the builder gave us was to go with golden beige for over $1000 upgrade.  We said, “No way!”  So we are slowly painting the entire house.  It is quite a chore, but such a quick improvement.

It is no surprise to anyone who knows us that grey is our favorite color for everything.  Let’s just say I wish it was our last name.   Maybe we’ll even name our first child Gray.  Yep grey is my happy place!

All of our paint is Valspar Reserve from Lowes.  We like this paint because it has zero VOCs and is low odor.  It is also a paint and primer in one.  Who doesn’t love to skip the primer step?  Oh yeah!  All of the wall paint is in the satin finish and our trim is semi-gloss.

Some may criticize our choices of using the same shades over and over as boring.  To us, each shade complements the others.  The house seems to flow better especially since our downstairs is open concept.

Woodlawn Bedroom White is our trim color.  It is everything from baseboards and crown molding to the dining room board and batten.

Seashell Grey is what we call our main house color because it is in the entry, hallways and the living room.  I like the monochromatic look with just a hint of grey.

One shade up from Seashell Grey is Filtered Shade, which is in all three bedrooms.  This is my favorite wall color.  If you are looking for the perfect pale grey, this is it in my opinion.

Now if you are looking for the perfect dark/bold grey, it is Cathedral Stone.  The name reminds me of London cathedrals…bonus.  This is in our dining room and powder room.

Our last grey, Montplier Ashlar Grey, is my least favorite.  We had to choose a grey with a slight beige tone to complement our cream cabinets.  True grey tones just didn’t look right.

So there you go, 50 4 shades of grey.
